The Brazil Division comprises all Vallourec activities in this country: traditional activities through its subsidiary V&M do BRASIL, acquired in 2000, and new activities with the creation of Vallourec & Sumitomo Tubos do Brasil (VSB) in 2007.

 V&M do BRASIL

 V&M do BRASIL offers the entire range of Vallourec solutions to meet all the needs of the Brazilian market: Oil & Gas, Power Generation, Petrochemicals, Mechanical Industries, Automotive, Construction, etc.

Its main industrial site, is located in Barreiro Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais state) and includes a blast furnace steel mill, two rolling mills and finishing capacities dedicated to each product line in order to guarantee customers sophisticated solutions of impeccable quality.

In addition,V&M do BRASIL owns two subsidiaries that supply it with the raw materials necessary for steel production.

• V&M FLORESTAL produces charcoal from more than 100,000 hectares of eucalyptus plantations in the northern part of Minas Gerais state.
• V&M MINERAÇÃO operates an iron ore mine in Pau Branco near the town of Brumadinho, located 35 km from Belo Horizonte.

V&M do BRASIL also has an R&D centre to provide state-of-the-art technology to its customers.

Most of V&M do BRASIL’s production is sold in the domestic market, while a limited amount is exported internationally, mainly in Latin America.

Vallourec & Sumitomo Tubos do Brasil (VSB)

VSB is a new joint venture owned 56% by Vallourec and 44% by Sumitomo Metals which is building a new integrated site in Jeceaba (Minas Gerais state) for producing premium seamless tubes.

The site will feature :

• a pipe mill: production will be divided equally between Vallourec and Sumitomo
• a steel mill: part of the production is intended to supply the pipe mill and the rest will be exported to Vallourec’s pipe mills in Europe
• heat-treating capacity and OCTG pipe threading lines

The rolling mill will produce its first tube in the 2nd half of 2010 and will reach full capacity in 2012 after the launch and approval phase. At that time, the joint venture will generate approximately 1,500 jobs.

The new plant will increase Vallourec’s total seamless tube production capacity by some 10%. The company will target energy markets (Oil & Gas, Petrochemicals), concentrating exclusively on export sales (Middle East, West Africa, North America).
